I was able to capture a single 'Day in My Life' and document it using using Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint. This experience gave me the opportunity to look at 1 day three different ways.
When using the Microsoft Word application, it provides to the point factual details of the events throughout the day. Similar to reading an autobiography or listening to an audiobook, you can imagine how things happened through reading the content. Some key advantages in using Word are the blank new document or the preset templates. Using the blank document allows for open creativity and documentation with full control over customizations. While using the templates can help you format in a certain style allowing you to work faster as well as present to your audience needs.
PowerPoint takes both Word and Excel and gives the ability to combine both concepts and present them together. “Microsoft PowerPoint is a computer software program that allows users to create presentations using words, images, sounds, and animations” (Dziak, 2024. Microsoft PowerPoint.). It gave me the ability to add additional layers to the information provided in the Word application and within the PowerPoint application features and capabilities. It gives a more appealing visual to the reader, and allows the reader to feel more connected and engaged. I see PowerPoint similar to the annual visual board people create at the start of a new year. You plan, write and execute your annual goals and display them in a visually appealing format to refer back to as the year progresses. The PowerPoint Presentation for ‘A Day in the Life’ is also a visually appealing presentation.
Each application gave its benefits in providing a different viewpoint based in the applications purpose. Overall, the three applications Word, PowerPoint and Excel bring the information all together for a ‘A Day in the Life’. Word was used for the text and extensive documentation. Excel was used to acicularity manage the time spent and calculate that into a visual. PowerPoint provided a slide presentation that can be used to support the Word document. Combining the use of each gives the reader the information and visual to put the days events into context, while joining that with the amount of time spent given from the Excel data. Keep in mind, when using these applications – your audience and delivery of the content need to mesh. Know your applications functionalities and what your audience is looking for. The is no one application used for this better than the other, it is all based on your audience more than the information gathered.
